Images from the weekend here in Amsterdam. Contrary to this week's subject line, Sunday's ride was entitled "Confidence is 10 percent hard work and 90 percent delusion." 😆

"Faith is confidence borne from realizing the fruits of practice." – Brad Stulberg quoting his friend Brandon

My classic rhyming riff on the axiom that experience begets assurance is "When in doubt, lead it out." A phrase that I think is so nice, that I've used it twice back in issue nº198 & all the way back in issue Nº79!

Brad Stulberg's notion of confidence stemming from evidence caught my eye in a Medium newsletter this week referencing an article of his from 2023.

At Twotone, we pride ourselves on being process-driven. This approach, much like Stulberg posits in his post, builds trust based on evidence over the years. We've built our company on this virtuous cycle of trusting the process and being accordingly rewarded with more faith as our efforts consistently earn results.

I learned that Stulberg also wrote an acclaimed book, The Practice of Groundedness, about:

• 🧘 "Why patience is the key to getting where you want to go faster–in work and life–and how to develop it, pushing back against the culture’s misguided obsession with speed and “hacks.”
• 🔍 "How to utilize the lens of the wise observer in order to overcome delusion and resistance to clearly see and accept where you are—which is the key to more effectively getting where you want to go"
• 🌱 "Why embracing vulnerability is the key to genuine strength and confidence"
• 👥👥 "The critical importance of “deep community,” or cultivating a sense of belonging and connection to people, places, and causes."

A likely candidate for my next transatlantic flight or to get a Workspace 6 Book Club going! : )

Thank you for reading & have a good week,

Jon

Old Man Mountain FLiP Cage, Hemlock & Atlas Packs Make Quick Work of Hauling More Gear
Old Man Mountain has an interesting new set of convertible FLiP cages that double up as quick release mounting brackets for new light Hemlock bikepacking…

Thank you, Cory, for the badass launch feature last week! It was a big week for Old Man Mountain and we're stoked to see lots of sick setups with this combo on race & expedition whips alike this year!

The Chiru Nanulak Long-Tail is Made for Extremes
The Chiru Nanulak is a long-tail Ti expedition bike built to excel in races and rides through some of the planet’s most extreme environments…

It was also a big week for Chiru with the launch of their Nanulak Long-Tail. I think 2025 will be the year of the long-tail! p.s. Chiru is also looking for USA retailers, so let him know if you're keen! Email: info [at] chirubikes.com

Bikes Beers Bluegrass (B3) '25 Registration is Live!

Bikes Beers Bluegrass (B3) Lost River Recap: A Wild and Wonderful Time – Andy Karr
Bikes Beers Bluegrass (B3) Lost River is a weekend-long gathering of Mid-Atlantic cyclists centered around a non-competitive gravel ride that focuses on casual cycling. Andy Karr attended B3 for the first time after years of prioritizing other local, racing-oriented events instead and was left wondering, “What was I thinking all those years?” Continue reading below for Andy’s recap, supported by a wonderful mix of analog and digital photography! Bikes Beers Bluegrass (B3) in Lost River, West Virginia has everything the name promises, plus a healthy dose of scratch-made, locally sourced, professionally prepared food, camping, hot coffee, fireside sing-alongs, a pack…

Register here & check the Radavist recap here. This event looks awesome! Someday I hope to join. : )

POSSE: Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere

"POSSE is an abbreviation for Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere, the practice of posting content on your own site first, then publishing copies or sharing links to third parties (like social media silos) with original post links to provide viewers a path to directly interacting with your content." This is one of the foundations of why I think newsletters/blogs like the one you're reading right now are the way to go. Click through for all the PROs & CONs.

Luis Mendo's Mundo Mendo

MUNDO MENDO
Mundo Mendo is the Membership Program of Tokyo-based artist Luis Mendo

I signed up for Luis' newsletter, Mundo Mendo, over the weekend. Lots of great ideas in there! Bonus: his site is also built on Ghost CMS, and his illustrations are awesome. See more at luismendo.com (p.s. I snaked his ⊙⟀⊙ characters for this week's subject line too.)

Preparing For The Next European War

Preparing for the next European war
European leaders are learning from the success of Ronald Reagan

Nobody likes the idea of it but as my friend Manuel Toscano recently wrote, "🇪🇺 Europe, history is repeating itself, we need to react!" The article above is by Azeem Azhar & feels particularly prescient after last week's embarrassing White House antics. It's something we all need to continue to talk about more as the USA's leadership role dissolves.

Sjors is a good friend of mine. We've tackled tradeshows, bikepacking races & even attended each other's weddings! I know Sjors through is work at pr.co (that Twotone uses for our newsroom) – as does Shimano & Canyon – via this newsletter & Sjors! Shoutout, Ben! At any rate, Sjors has left pr dot co & it feels like the end of an era! Stoked for what's next, Sjors!
