This week's rhyming subject line is about maintaining a sense of humility and understatement:
"Have more than you show, speak less than you know.” — William Shakespeare.
I stumbled across it earlier last week and it stayed on my mind.
"In a world that often celebrates excessive self-promotion and verbosity, this simple yet profound advice encourages us to focus on substance over style." – Regia Marinho
More of Regia's interpretation:
- “Have more than you show” - encourages us to amass knowledge, skills, and achievements quietly, without the need for constant flaunting.
She continues to say that Shakespeare's quote also emphasizes the power of actions over words. Our deeds should speak volumes about our capabilities and character vs. yapping. 😅
- “Speak less than you know” However, the aspiration to cultivate a path of personal growth and influence inspired me.
Can this help avoid unnecessary conflicts and misunderstandings while maintaining an air of mystery and respect? Maybe! However, the aspiration to cultivate a path of personal growth and influence inspired me.
So, as you start the week, consider that the most influential individuals are often those who let their actions, accomplishments, and depth of knowledge speak for themselves. Speaking less can be a sign of wiseness.
"Intelligence is like a river. The deeper it is, the less noise it makes" – Barbara Delinsky
Some food for thought to start the week! Thank you for reading!

It really made the rounds this past week or so but do also check out The Art of Taking It Slow if you haven't. My friend Jake Stangel took the photos and Anna Wiener, of the New Yorker, 's interview with Grant Peterson is gold!
