...what stands in nearest proximity to you has enormous implications. As Jim Rohn has wisely said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Similarly, Tim Sanders, former Yahoo! director, said, “Your network is your net worth.” - Benjamin P. Hardy, "Surround Yourself with People Who Hold You to a Higher Standard than You Hold Yourself"
Benjamin's post stuck with me this week. I've long since tried to spend my time with people who inspire me, simply seem to do more and ultimately manage to make a bigger mark in the world. This has always been intuitive & intentional for me.
If it hasn't been for you, try this out:
- Who are the people in nearest proximity to you?
- How did they become your peer group?
- Was it on purpose or based on convenience?
- Do these people hold you to a high standard?
- Or, do they hold you to an even lower standard than you hold yourself?
"Your level of talent and “potential” are irrelevant if you’re surrounded by people who don’t help you realize it." - Benjamin P. Hardy
I don't just attribute my success to what I've learned from the people I encounter daily but also rising to their expectations of what I can accomplish. Who in your peer group helps you up your game every day? Thank them. : )
with appreciation,
Jon

Welcomed into Their World – Mortise & Tenon Magazine
Robell is an old friend of mine from Atlanta. He recently joined Joshua and Mike of Mortise & Tenon Magazine. M&T is an annual print magazine celebrating the preservation, research, and recreation of historic furniture.
...there are exceptionally few people of color represented in the world of fine furniture. As the son of immigrants from Africa, which has its own amazing but different woodworking tradition, I sometimes feel like an outsider.
Totally rad to see old friends making amazing things!
